2011 Royal Melbourne Wine Show Award

The Douglas Seabrook Single Vineyard Trophy 2011

The Royal Melbourne Wine Show is a highly regarded event held annually in October for winemakers to prove their wines merits. Each year the Seabrook Family sponsor The Douglas Seabrook Single Vineyard Trophy in memory of Douglas Seabrook. This year was a special year as Hamish Seabrook grandson of Douglas Seabrook has produced award winning wines. That would have been a proud moment for Douglas - well done Hamish !

This Year 2011 Douglas Seabrook Single Vineyard Trophy was awarded to

Classes 1 to 5
Yabby Lake Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2010
The Douglas Seabrook Single Vineyard Trophy is a prestigious annual Royal Melbourne Wine Show award named after iconic 1970s Australian wine judge and commentator Douglas Seabrook.

To qualify for this award, all exhibits must be produced using at least 95% of fruit from an individually named vineyard and the vineyard name must appear on the wine’s commercial label.
The 2011 Douglas Seabrook Single Vineyard trophy winner,Yabby Lake Single Vineyard Chardonnay, is hand selected from a number of blocks from the Yabby Lake Vineyard. The fruit was handpicked and whole-bunch-pressed into tight-grain French oak barriques, with each block handled separately in the winery. Fermentation commenced naturally and the wine was matured on lees, without malolactic fermentation. Founded by Robert and Mem Kirby, Yabby Lake is under the custodianship of General Manager and Chief Winemaker, Tom Carson.

Tasting at the Birdsville Pub

Iain and Wendy wanted to see the Cooper Creek in full flow and cross it on the single vehicle punt.
(Certainly different from crossing the Murray River on the ferry at Manum).  Hence a  wine tasting Seabrook and Clancy – Two Way Range at the Birdsville Pub seemed a good idea.

As you can see from the photo of the Pub it has great character and is still standing from the day it was built which was 1884.
Commonly known as the Birdsville Pub
We were unsure how the wine tasting would be received, but we had a great response to the wine and talked to a lot of very nice locals and travellers, alike.

The Birdsville Pub  is as remote as you can get near the Simpson Dessert. However, the outback is a wonderful place to visit and the folk out there are friendly and interesting.

After Birdsville we decided that since we were up this way we might as well go on down  to Innaminka.

The Innaminka Pub has been tidied up and they have built a restaurant onto the pub, without taking away the fun of the front bar or the feel of the outback pub.

I have to say the restaurant is excellent.  The food is sensational and the folk there are terrific.

you simply must try the Eye Fillet of OBE Beef with Mustard, Pepper, Herb and Horseradish Crust, served with Caramlised Baby Onions and Red Wine Jus

Find out more about the Birdsville & Innamincka Pubs and the great food from the Outback Loop

Off to the Melbourne Wine show is on the 27th October.  The Seabrook family proudly present a trophy at the show. Douglas Seabrook memorial Trophy.  More about that later....
